about
With her current single ‘Free Today’ playlisted at BBC6music Albertine Sarges drops ‘Fish’ another track from her forthcoming album The Sticky Fingers released on January 29th 2021 on Moshi Moshi.
Swiftly establishing herself as a raconteuse who refuses to abide by linear narratives and typical beauty convention, Sarges debut for Moshi Moshi veers from Viv Albertine-inspired post punk to Merrill Garbus-reminiscent vocal acrobatics with a nod to Laurie Anderson.
‘Fish’s Dadaistic lyrics speak of frozen peas, black dogs, a sauna and a dead reindeer on a church tower, inspired by two friends who spent a year together in Helsinki.
As Sarges put it this is “Nordic absurdist black humour meets coconuts on the beach. Juicy toms tear through the breaks, casual guitar loops get us swinging, and ethereal flute sounds liven up the chill.”
lyrics
Bags of frozen peas
That's my kind of treatment
Can we meet at the public toilet?
I’m with the big black dog
Should i throw away your ham, my dear?
OK - is your hat ready?
I got some confidential
Insider information
It is not out yet
You are like an exotic
Deep water fish
All light is too much
Sun! No jacket! What is this!
I planted a plant
and some funky flowers
Sauna it is
Everyone is blond
Seven blonde girls
Oooh how i would
Love to have lasagne
Not in my hair though
Not in my hair though
You are like an exotic
Deep water fish
All light is too much
Too much
Team salmiakki
(No, salty and strong)
Strong and sunburn deluxe
A moose broke into a bank in Töölö
And it died
On top of a church
By police brutality
Quite poetic
(Quiet poetic)
Tampere south
(Team Salmiakki)
Yeah
Don’t touch my Nokia
(Team Salmiakki)
Helsinki Beach (Yeah)
You are like an exotic
Deep water fish
All light is too much
Too much
Team salmiakki
(No, salty and strong)
Strong and sunburn deluxe
With its gradually-unspooling grooves and danceable beats, the debut effort from Swedish psych band Hollow Ship entices with every listen. Bandcamp New & Notable Apr 8, 2020
