about

Albertine Sarges new single ‘The Girls’ is a knowing missive to feminist comrades, delivered atop the strutting angular pop of her band The Sticky Fingers who lend their name to her debut album, out on Moshi Moshi Records on 29th January.

The Tina Weymouth basslines and minimalist guitars feel positively defiant as they carry an upbeat tale of a friendship with more of a carnal connection than might first appear. Writ-ten on a Midsummer night in the Finnish country side, ‘The Girls’ encourages everybody to shine in their own ways and give in to the sensuality of their bodies.

“My friend Harriet Rabe stood all night at the highest point of Helsinki and sent messages in Morse to the sea. She worked symbolic performances in the frame of art school. In that time we both got in touch for the first time with queer feminist circles and started to explore new ways of being ourselves. We spent midsummer in Finland. The eagerness, the picnics, butterflies at night. The Girls’ is the soundtrack to those moments when you really trust someone. It is also an expression of curiosity. What if we sank in deeper - into the wide apricot sky.”

lyrics

You’re a human lighthouse
You don’t play hide and seek
In the brushes.
You are sending beams out
Just from the highest point
in town.
You meet her for picnic
And touch touchy surface
Looking for her secret get
All the meta data here!

Dig for the meta data yeah
Got ya baba, yeah, get there bebe

It’s you and me and the girls
Lisa and Rosa: (watcha sayin?)
You and me and the girls
(watcha dreamin?)
You and me and the girls
(what’s your dream)
I’m midsummer night dreaming
You and the girls.

I like them deep (What?)
Cause deep down I’m still a hippie! (Ha-ha!)
And I like them sweet, (Yeah!)
I love love my fingers sticky. (That’s our new band name!)
I want to fly high
with them sticky fingers
In a wide apricot sky, oh baby!
Why should i pretend we are just friends
When all the signs tell me not to deny
My love for

You, me and the girls
(watcha sayin?)
You and me and the girls
(watcha dreamin?)
You, me and the girls
(what’s your dream)
I’m midsummer night dreaming
You and the girls.

I’d like to have a dog
And to take up smoking
I’d take the dog out at night
Surrender my heavy dreaming
Colin: (Get get get them)
I’d like to have a dog
And to take up smoking
Roman: (She’d like to have a dog, now, here!)
I’d take the dog out at night
Surrender my heavy dreaming
(And some cigarettes please!
Get get get them, pleaaaase!)

Dreaming
(You wanna be a dog?)
Dreamin
(Please!)
I’d take the dog out at night
(Whatcha saying?)
(Why don’t you take me out some time, darling?)
(Whatcha dreaming?
What’s your dream?)
(Get get get them, please!)
(Yeah)
(Whatcha saying?)
(Baby)
Heavy dreaming
Which dog?
(What’s your dream?)

It’s you, me and the girls
(watcha sayin?)
You and me and the girls
(watcha dreamin?)
You, me and the girls
(what’s your dream)
I’m midsummer night dreaming
You and the girls.
